2015 Growth for the Certification Program
The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute continued its era of growth throughout 2015, notching hundreds of new certified products and launching a stand-alone certification devoted to Material Health.
In 2015, the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute issued 96 new certifications (including Cradle to Cradle certifications and the new Material Health Certificate), a 28% increase over 2014, covering 566 new product variations. The number of companies with certified products has increased by 37, to a total of 190 companies around the world at the end of 2015. At the year's end, Cradle to Cradle certifications totaled 395, representing about 3,000 product variations.
Another significant milestone in 2015 was the launch of the Cradle to Cradle Material Health Certificate, a stand-alone certification option based on the Material Health section of the full Cradle to Cradle Certification program. The Material Health attribute provides manufacturers with a trusted way to communicate their work toward chemically optimized products and assists specifiers and consumers in knowing about the chemicals in products and supply chains, and avoiding chemicals of concern. Since introduction of the MHC, Cradle to Cradle has issued 17 Material Health stand-alone certificates, in addition to 67 Material Health Certificates issued for products that already had Cradle to Cradle certification.
